Programs for Women
Safe and friendly spaces to learn and socialise
Women on Wednesday
If you are a woman who has come here as a refugee, our Women on Wednesday program can help you to understand more about life in Australia.
Every refugee family has a different experience settling into a new country. We know that by helping women, the whole family benefits – which is why we created the Women on Wednesday program. It’s often called WoW, for all the “WoW moments” that happen during the program… learning, sharing, finding new friends, being more confident and having fun.
WoW sessions are run on Wednesdays during school term. Different people run a range of workshops that cover topics like:
- food safety
- shopping economically
- personal safety
- paying accounts
- knowing your community
- dealing with your children’s school
We also include sewing classes which encourage your creativity as well as covering practical advice on such things as making and mending clothes, curtains and cushions.
Women Together
Our Women Together program is exactly what it sounds like. We provide a safe, comfortable and friendly space for women of all cultures and countries, who have come to Australia as refugees or migrants, to meet, enjoy a social gathering and to learn from each other… together.
Held on Monday mornings, cooking and sharing food are an essential part of each session.
Other activities including sewing, knitting, crochet, card and paper making, excursions, meditation, singing, dance, beauty, and bingo. We also celebrate Chinese New Year, Persian New Year, Easter, Christmas, Eid and other annual events.
