Moorditj Koolangka​

Moorditj Koolangka means Strong Children. This program is all about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids in the Mirrabooka area gathering after school for a wide array of activities.

Held on Wednesday afternoons during school terms the program involves getting involved in visual arts, sports, music, culture and many more options.

Some terms we work together on a larger project such as “Djinanginy Ngany – Seeing Me”, our photography exhibition from 2020. In 2019 we developed “When the Earth Was in Darkness” a NAIDOC video which celebrated the theme of ‘Voice. Treaty. Truth. The video tells the story of why the Magpie or Kulbardi sings each morning. We recently launched Moorditj Koolangka ‘at school’, which links with specific schools in Mirrabooka and surrounding suburbs to provide afterschool activities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth students. This program is part of the Communities for Children project, facilitated by the Smith Family and funded by the Department of Social Services. We welcome enquiries from schools which would like to be involved.
